Celebrating National Coding Week 2022

Is there a better way to celebrate National Coding Week 2022, than potentially inspiring the next generation of web developers? We think not!

We don’t know if you’ve noticed, but we’re a big fan of code. Each line is an integral piece of the web development puzzle. Each of our developers have ventured into coding via different paths, but what unites them is their passion!

So this National Coding Week, we’ve asked our developers to recap their coding journey and also for advice for any ‘would be’ coders who are looking to take their first leap into this ever-evolving world.

Our developer Ricky recounts his first foray into coding…

I was first exposed to coding as part of my college course in Electronic Engineering. I remember the excitement I felt watching something that I had coded come to life. This got me into writing games personally for fun, which evolved even further into web development.

What I love about coding is that it keeps your brain active, our industry is forever changing, so even if you’ve been in the business forever, there’s always something new to learn or experience. As such, task yourself to constantly growing your skillset.

Much like Ricky, Tom also got hooked on coding, writing his own games in school (which by his own admission, weren’t very good!)

I just really loved building things. I started to build little Java based websites in school and it just kind of took off from there.

My advice for anyone looking to start in coding would be this, just remember to keep your mind broad, you’re in an industry that’s always changing so everyday is different and comes with its own challenges. Just remember, it’s not always going to be easy – but the sense of accomplishment you achieve from solving a tricky coding problem is very satisfying.

George, now Creative Director at mso, started his professional life as a Junior Web Developer some 15 years ago

My first experience with coding was during my college years. I was doing a rather generic IT course, which wasn’t the most thrilling, but I discovered coding and definitely found my niche. From there I spent lots of time teaching myself to code and the rest is history.

My advice to the new coding generation, get stuck in! The possibilities are endless when it comes to code, there’s nothing that you can’t build so you’re constantly challenged. Just make sure to keep learning as much as you possibly can, be adaptable.

Ultimately If you’re unsure, just have a go – you’ll never know where it will take you.
