We often get asked ‘are your websites an off the shelf/out of the box solution as they use WordPress?’ In short no, they are not, but this article might help explain why that is not the case. By outlining how we use WordPress technology, why this is different from other website builders/agencies and how we use WordPress to help our clients.
Firstly we should explain that WordPress is an open-source website creation platform. By being an open-source technology it means website developers can use the platform in very different ways. For example, a WordPress website could be large, bespoke and technically advanced or small, simple and templated. Think of WordPress like a brick, a brick is generally a small rectangular block, typically made of fired or sun-dried clay. Just because bricks are mostly similar does not mean that every house built with a brick will have the same appearance or function. Elements are added and edited, this is similar to how WordPress works.
The design
We create website designs with the clients brand, industry and functionality requirements in mind so we can deliver a website that is unique to them that targets all their needs.
We use our own bespoke designs as we can then easily knit the front-end design to the functionality of their CMS (content management system).
We steer away from templated designs as they can be very restrictive to edit the look and functionality. Meaning we would not be able to control the look, feel and functionality to make the site tailor-made.
The development
We build each of our WordPress CMS solutions to our customers’ specific requirements. We try to avoid page builders (like WP Bakery and Elementor) as they add unnecessary code i.e. ‘code bloat’. Code bloat can slow down sites and make them much larger in size than they need to be making them wasteful of resources.
Our passion to understand how we can streamline our clients’ processes, make our setups using advanced custom fields both easy to use and intuitive whilst optimised for performance.
The CMS (content management system) and training
We offer a level of (restricted) control to all our clients, which allows our customers to make all of the necessary changes and updates to their website content. This ensures that the website remains on brand and in the correct format, meaning it’s not possible to make it look unsightly or create errors on the front-end (the website view the public sees).
We create our WordPress CMS solutions with non-technical users in mind. Although we do offer training to all our clients, this is more of a tour around their bespoke backend system. To show them where and how they can update the site content without having to get a developer involved. As the CMS is bespoke to the clients’ specific functionality requirements there are no confusing areas that need to be ignored, everything in the system is in use.
