According to Cisco, by 2017 video will account for 69% of all consumer traffic. It would take an individual more than 5 million years to watch the amount of video that will cross global IP networks each month in 2020, and video on demand traffic will have almost trebled. So in short, video is going viral.
The impact of video across the web has been huge and over the past few years it has been made much more accessible to small businesses. At mso we’ve really seen a great shift forward in digital marketing, particularly when it comes to the use of video in schools. Video can elevate your online presence not only from an SEO perspective, but by enhancing the user experience.
When surfing the web, the use of video has a greater appeal to an audience, allowing you to communicate a message in a much easier and effective way than just a block of text or even an image. Whether you’re trying to convey a certain atmosphere and feel on your site, or whether it’s a more practical tool to explain a service or product, video can satisfy prospective customers much better.
Our client, Bede’s Summer School, wanted to integrate the use of video through out their site. We started by integrating drone footage into the homepage, showing off the impressive school buildings and beautiful surroundings. As well as being visually impressive it also provides an insight into the school locations, the look and feel, and provides parents with a personal insight as to whether their children would feel at home there. As a result the site has increased reach and gained much more traction with users encouraging them to stay on the website for longer, therefore increasing the chances of making a sale.
Video’s can be repurposed and used in other online marketing sources such as a YouTube/Vimeo channel or promotion on social media making for a more cost effective solution. But you don’t necessarily have to invest a lot of money into video anymore either. The quality of recordings on our phones and tablets along with the broad selection of apps made available to us such as Vine, Montaj and Viddy means that smaller businesses with smaller budgets can also get involved with equally effective results.
Although video will, or already is, the future of content marketing be sure not to neglect your other channels of marketing. As with all marketing it is most effective when reinforced and supported by a variety of media depending on your target audience. But the message is clear, video is going viral so get involved!
